Am I a faithful steward?

Vacation Bible School (VBS ) has always had a special place in my heart .Growing up,I dont remember even one summer vacation gone by without attending VBS.We loved it.Mostly it was three VBS s  in one vacation-one at school, one at church and one as a kid at the VBS where Mom volunteered as a director. All the years that I've attended or taught it was a fun experience- learning and teaching the Bible to kids. It's always been a place of commitment and a renewed relationship with God.

This year it was a little different. With a four month old baby at home who needed me round the clock ,atleast every two or three hours,I wasn't sure if I could help out in VBS at the school I had studied.Hesitantly,I decided to volunteer.

It was the final day of VBS.My daughter had slept at 1.30 am the previous night and happily woke up only at 9 am the next morning. After bathing her, feeding her and after all the normal routine of caring for a baby,I rushed to VBS.I was late. Again:(

The topic for that day was 'I am God's steward'.To a crowd of about 300 kids aged 5 to 16 ,crammed up in the hall,Sam,our VBS director explained it so beautifully-"Being God's steward means being a caretaker of all that has been entrusted to you that includes our God given gifts and talents. As God's stewards we ought to use it for His glory."That wasn't new but that particular day it hit hard.

I've had the best of everything in life.An awesome childhood, godly upbringing and SO many oppurtunities to use my gifts for God.Of late, all of it had been unused and just lying around .When I lost my voice almost a year back due to a vocal cord polyp I remember telling God that I'd sing for Him when I get my voice back no matter what. Honestly,It's been quite some time since I've passionately sang.My keyboard lies in a corner gathering dust while my blog here lies untouched for months together. So many opportunities .Just wasted away.So many opportunities to show HIM to the world. All gone down the drain.

David, though a shepherd boy,had trained himself in the use of sling shots and in the art of music in the quiet of the wilderness while tending his dad's flock.Little did he know that one day God would take him to the palace as a musician for the king and thus begin his training as the king's successor.

I  may not be a great singer or a good writer but whatever little I have, when I use it, and work at the task assigned to me with all sincerity, I'm being God's steward. This applies to finances, relationships and people in my sphere of influence.Using one's talents and gifts doesn't mean being talented or being onstage performing. It could be a helping hand,a word of encouragement-just being a reflector of God's love and being sincere in what God has called me to do.

"Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men".
